Our Next Topic:
Discipleship in the Streets
Thursdays at 7pm ET
(May 8 - June 26)
“Thoughts and prayers” has become a common Christian trope in a world wracked with tragedies and crisis. We know how to talk to God about the bad stuff, but often we don't know what to do about the bad stuff.
This session of the Reconstructing Faith Learning Community will focus on what to do as the people of God in response to our growing political and social upheaval.
How do we oppose injustice personally and corporately? How do we talk and relate to those who disagree with us or are causing harm?
Adapting trainings from the anti-authoritarian organization Choose Democracy, we’ll look at how Jesus navigated difference and opposition as a model for our own response.
Topics covered will include:
- How we got here
- How to talk with people we disagree with
- How love de-escalates conflict (and sometimes strategically escalates it)
- How solidarity and place-sharing are vital
- How to become anti-violent people as expressions of the love and justice of God.
This will be discussion, planning, training, and action-oriented. It’s time to take our discipleship "to the streets"!
We will meet weekly on Thursdays at 7pm ET (May 8 - June 26).
